A CUPPA WITH TOM
The man, the myth, the legend – unfortunately wasn’t available when we conducted the interviews, so here’s Tom instead!
And really, Tom is much better because he’s real and has real life super-powers. Coffee super-powers.
So Tom, what do you do with Black Market Roasters?
I’m head of service department, dispatch department and delivery department. The main job is servicing our clients coffee machines and grinders and making sure that all equipment works well.
Take us through a typical day.
That’s quite difficult thing to do, since I am three departments at the same time. It means that every day is different. But let’s say that after drinking my coffee here in warehouse, I’ll get engaged in production, phone calls, emergencies, packing and fixing. That’s the morning part, while the afternoon one usually consists of servicing in our partners shops.
Tell us a bit about your background before joining Black Market.
Mechanical engineering and power tools. Otherwise I came from #1 beer country, so learning about coffee world was completely new experience for me.
What is the favourite part (or parts) of your job?
- free coffee
- Servicing. You know, that strange satisfaction when something is broken and I give it my magic touch and it is not broken anymore. Or especially when I have no clue how to fix something, yet somehow I manage to do so. Very rewarding feeling.
- when clients feed me with cakes. That’s sweet.
Do you have any hobbies or passions besides coffee?
One of the bigger ones is indoor climbing. Sometimes I just walk through a mall or some kind of warehouse and keep thinking about how to climb up to the ceiling and how much fun it would be.
If you could invent something, what would it be?
Time machine. Would love go to Woodstock 69. Yeah baby, love and rock & roll 😀 😀 😀
What’s something that’s made you smile recently?
I don’t know. I mean, I’m easy to please, so there is too many things that make me smile. Would be discriminatory to pick only one.
What are you reading at the moment?
Subtle art of not giving a fuck. Good book.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A train driver.
What’s the most memorable travel experience you’ve had?
Any time I go for holiday back home to beer country. Every single step, look and breath has thousands of memories attached to it. Very memorable.
What’s your favourite movie?
Probably some niche European movie you’ve never heard about before 😀
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Freeze time. Imagine to have extra hour to sleep every morning!
Know any good jokes?
Well, I do.. But already got into trouble for telling them couple of times.. I think this one should remain unanswered 😉
