Meet the Liberty Blend: The OG Coffee of Black Market Coffee

The Liberty Blend holds a special place in our hearts here at Black Market Coffee. It’s our OG blend, and it’s the one we’re currently serving up in our Enmore, Marrickville, and Thirroul cafes. We like to call it “the Free Thinking Coffee” because, much like the vibrant community of Enmore where it all started, it’s all about embracing individuality and celebrating what makes us all unique.

Why It’s So Special

While the Liberty Blend was designed to be the perfect partner for milk-based coffees, it’s actually a fantastic all-rounder. The blend’s smooth body, natural sweetness, and a touch of lively acidity make it just as delicious black. Whether you’re sipping on a silky flat white or enjoying it as a long black, you’re going to love the balance of flavours.

Expect tasting notes of dark chocolate, caramel, and roasted nuts—a rich and full-bodied profile with just the right amount of sweetness. And that sparkling acidity? It adds a bit of brightness that makes this coffee pop, whether you’re drinking it black or with milk.

The Origins: Ethiopia, Brazil, and Colombia

The Liberty Blend is made from an equal mix of three amazing coffee origins: Ethiopia, Brazil, and Colombia. Each of these regions brings something special to the table, and Jess (our founder) and Ben (our head roaster) carefully select the beans every harvest season based on their quality and flavour profiles. The result? A blend that’s consistent, balanced, and truly top-notch.

Espresso recipe: Liberty Blend

When we’re making this coffee in our cafes, we use a recipe of 23 grams in, 52 grams out, with an extraction time of 32-40 seconds (depending on taste). This ratio gives us the ideal balance of body and flavour.

But don’t stress if you’re brewing at home – you can keep it simple! We recommend using a 1:2 ratio: for every 18 grams of coffee, aim to extract 36 grams of coffee. It’s an easy method that will give you a consistently great cup.
