Cold Brew Coffee Recipe

WHAT IS COLD BREW COFFEE?
Cold brew coffee typically starts with coarsely ground beans, steeped slowly in cold water instead of hot. In Australia, we like to let it brew for 15–24 hours, nice and slow, then strain it out and enjoy the smooth, refreshing result.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ICED LATTE & COLD BREW?
While they might look similar in a glass, iced lattes and cold brew are made very differently.
ICED LATTE:
An iced latte starts with espresso, hot and fast, then it’s cooled down with milk and ice.
COLD BREW:
Cold brew, on the other hand, is brewed cold from the beginning. They are typically served black or with just a splash of milk (especially if it’s a darker roast).
OUT GO-TO COLD BREWING RECIPE:
Ratio: 62.5g coffee to 1 L water
- Grind your coffee coarsely (similar to a plunger grind).
- Place the ground coffee into a muslin cloth or fine filter pouch.
- Submerge the pouch in a container of water, allowing it to soak fully.
- Add the rest of your cold water, give it a stir, cover, and let it brew for 24 hours at room temperature (you can also refrigerate it during the brew time if preferred).
- After 24 hours, remove the coffee pouch and stir the brewed coffee.
- Strain the liquid through a muslin cloth or cheesecloth to remove any fines.
- Store in the fridge and serve over ice. Add a lemon wedge or fruit slice for a nice finishing touch.
Cold brew will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
WHAT COFFEE CAN I USE FOR COLD BREW?
If you want to add milk to your cold brew, we recommend a higher ratio of coffee to water and choosing an origin or blend that is well developed in the roast and suited to more caramel/choc sweetness, like our Liberty Blend.
If you prefer it black, then follow the recipe above and choose a high-quality single-origin of your choice!
