Gift giving is a gift. Not in the way that being generous to others boosts your own sense of joy, which is true, sure, but in the way that gift giving is a talent. One that I don’t possess. It gives me a sense of anxiety that if I don’t get the perfect gift - something that has a high command of form and functionality, encapsulates their essence, sparks joy, leaves me with enough money to buy groceries, and will arrive by Christmas - I will have failed as a daughter, friend, and human. Not this year. This year I choose to care less. You know why?
