Australian Coffee Championships

As a Barista, we all look forward to testing ourselves against the best. The Melbourne International Coffee [MICE] Festival plays host to Australia’s and as seen in 2014, the World Barista Championship. This year in 2016, MICE hosts the Australian Coffee tasting Championship, as well as the Barista and Latte Art contests for Australia. Coffee Championships are a great way for Baristas to improve their skills.

Black Market Roasters getting involved in the Australian Coffee Championships 2016

As a wholesale coffee roaster and a barista school operator based out of Sydney, Black Market Roasters are getting involved this year.

Scott, our Roaster will be heading down for a couple of days during MICE. He will be sampling the local coffee roasters at their espresso bars, and trying large amounts of espresso and filter coffee. It is always refreshing to get down to Melbourne, see what extraction ratios they are using as well as the sourcing criteria of some of the world’s best roasters. Picks for Scott are Proud Mary Coffee, St Ali and Seven Seeds.

Jessica, our Quality Control, will be heading down with Angus to the coffee championships, which is the weekend before MICE to compete in the Australian Coffee Tasting Competition. Jessica placed 1st in NSW for the coffee championships and has been training to improve her quality and speed heading into the final in Melbourne. She is also pleased to head to Melbourne to taste Code Black Coffee and head out to some of her favourite restaurants, such as Attica.

At Black Market Roasters, we are passionate about providing quality fresh roasted coffee as a wholesale coffee supplier in Sydney and shipping Australia wide.
