BEST COFFEE TO KICK OFF 2021

Guatemala Antigua Pastores

The image of this towering volcano has me dreaming of travel and thinking about which coffee region we’ll hit up as soon we get the opportunity to throw off our shackles. I get the feeling 2021 is going to be a great year, and have chosen this coffee because I think it sets the tone of the year to come. It comes from small holder farmers around the town of Pastores in the Antigua region which is looked over by this fabulously majestic volcano. Just one of the factors that makes the soil and climate in the region perfect for producing stunning specialty coffees.

The farmers are meticulous about quality and pick only the ripest cherries before grading them to 15+ screen size. In the cup the coffee is elegant with notes of dark chocolate, kanzi apple and is oh so syrupy. It is modest, yet confident with plenty of pleasant surprises along the way. We will be drinking this coffee as espresso to enjoy the surprising crisp apple acidity or as a piccolo to bring out the smooth chocolaty notes.

Either way I will be content with the moment and will be dreaming of my future travel to Guatemala.
